Thinking of buying a Satnav for my car, do modern GPS systems require a mobile phone connection in order to function?

Specifically this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAGELLAN-ROADMATE-1200-GPS-SAT-NAV-SYSTEM-not-a-tomtom_W0QQitemZ360082918257QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item360082918257&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A3%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Thanks

  1. No, they don't, they link up to the satellites, they don't use cell phones in any way, never have.

  2. No, they don't require mobile phones to work. GPS's link directly to satellites in space, and use a completely different system compared to cellular signals.
