Does a motion light have to be on a lightswitch or can you plug it right to the outlet?

  1. Some motion lights are multi-functional.

    and they have adjustable settings to adjust on and of times. they can be plugged into proper voltage. and they will work at the setting you adjust on their dip switches found on each light. But....If you want the motion light to stay on sometimes, there is a function you can do by having it wired through a switch, and by turning the switch on..then right back off for 5 sec then back on..this makes the light remain on till the next time you switch off.

    The lights usually have instructions and cautions.

    One that i remember..(do not wire more then one on the same circuit)

  2. All it needs is a power source be it either electric power or battery.

  3. if you're fitting an external light in the UK the work needs to be undertaken or signed off by a competent electrician....

  5. Depending on the type you buy.... some use switches, others can be hooked straight up to the power!
