Does a new exhaust get louder over time?

I just installed a new Stillen exhaust and b-pipe for my 98 maxima, its not as loud as my friends even though i have the same exhaust system and intake, the mechanic said give it a week to "break through" and it will get louder.

is why most people replace becasue they get loud.. and yes the longer you drive it the louder it will get

It should not change much from when it is put in.which is good right?? otherwise you would have put in a piece of steam pipe
