  1. 2 1/2 position

  2. neither... my coach always say that the setter always get the second ball. anywhere the ball is, it's the responsibility of the setter (ofcourse, if it is far from the setter's hand, it's not his responsibility anymore)

  3. 3 mostly but it depends on how your coach sets it up!

  4. Neither. Usually if a team uses a backcourt setter then the setter will move to position 1 after serve receive. Position ! is the setter's defensive "home position". He/she should return tho this position after every attack. In defense the setter covers tips and hits from power and any garbage that falls from middle or power attacks. After first ball is up the setter moves to 2 1/2, between weak side hitter and middle (the pass should go to 2 1/2)

  5. mostly neither! 2

  6. usually the steer has the second hit no matter where the ball is unless the setter calls help then the closer person has to get it

  7. It really depends on the offense you are running.

If you are running the standard 4-2 with the setter setting only from the front row, the setter is usually in area 3.

If you are running the international 4-2 with the setter setting only from the front row and setting from the right front position, the setter will be in area 2.

If you are running the 5-1 and your setter is in the front row, the setter is in position 2.

If you are running the 5-1 and your setter is in the back row, they will play defense in position 1 and offense in position 2 1/2.  (Between position 2 and 3)

If you are running the 6-2, your setter will play defense in position 1 and offense in position 2 1/2.

This is assuming that you are talking about the standard numbering system below.

    4 3 2

    5 6 1
