Does a society need rules for it to be a society?

  1. I will argue this point: if we did not have any rules when we wake tomorrow, we would have to make up new ones the next day.  It is a fact.  Humans need direction and leaders.  There are natural followers and natural leaders but even the leaders have boundaries.  

    I wrote a paper once for a criminal justice class that premised 5 persons stranded on an island away from all rules and laws, only themselves.

    In a short amount of time they would have to consider what job they want to do, get food, get wood for fire, get water, etc.  When it came time to eat they would have to establish how much to eat and who would cook.  The alpha males and females would soon take leadership roles and establish rules that would be followed by the rest, if not, just as you see in many of the reality shows today, it would be chaotic until an agreement is met.


  2. Yeah, or else you'd have anarchy, which I don't consider anything stable enough to call a society. i mean it's not like we make up rules just because, we do it in order to have a more 'prefect' society, or at least something close.
