Unnecessary exposure to heat and moisture can cause medications to lose their potency prior to their labelled expiration date. This is why it's necessary to keep medicines in a cool and dry place ( NOTE: You should always check the booklet of a drug or consult a pharmacist to know the proper storage instructions of any specific drug ).

Medication that has changed colour, consistency, or odour ( regardless of the expiration date ), are not to be taken. Also, never do the mistake of plugging a cotton in a medication bottle. Doing so can draw moisture into the container.
