  1. Yes the other guy is right just mke sure your turtle can get out of the water  also that he can't escape from the tank!

  2. The rule of thumb is 10 gallons per inch of shell.

  3. You didn't specify what kind of turtle, because different turtle different turtle size right. So chances are you should fill it up just under 3/4 of the size of the tank. It also depends on the size of your water heater and the size of your filter. Some turtles don't need any water i.e. Box turtles, so make sure you do your research

  4. They need a big tank..so strt out with a 55 gallon. Walmart has 55 tank in a box for 153.97.

**The tank size for small 2” re-eared slider should be a 20-gallon aquarium minimum. As a general rule, the water depth should be at least 2 times the turtle's length, with several extra inches of air space between the surface of the water to the top edge of the tank to prevent escapes. So if your turtle is 4” around he needs at least 10 to 12” of water to swim. For ONE 4 to 5 inch long sliders, the recommended minimum enclosure surface area is 50 gal plus tank with an extra square foot for each additional turtle.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light for  8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that  they need to grow.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system!

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily.

They need leafy greens for vitamins at least 3 to 4 times a week.

And a big tank 55 gallons or more..

  5. A 55 gal. tank would probablly be okay for a single musk turtle.  They can get up to 7", so really should have a 70 gal., but your particular turtle may not get to 7"  He might stay at 5" full grown.  Just be sure when he startes getting some size to him, that his tank isn't cluttered up with stuff, like rocks for a basking perch.  He needs room to swim and exercise.

You can think about a basking perch like this:

to provide more open water when he gets bigger.

You can start a Red Ear Slider in a 55 gal. tank, and it will be comfortable in there for quite a while, until it gets bigger than 6".  Then you would need to upgrade to a larger tank for it.

Good luck with your new turtle, and I hope this has been helpful.

  6. well for a 55 gallon tank, i would do something like filling the tank about 3/4 of the way full. put largers stones on the bottom. pet stores sell these floating rocks for like 12 bucks that stick to the side of the tank. turtles love to swim, but also need to be able to come out of the water.
