Question:

Does a vaporizer help a baby with a runny nose?

My 15 mo old has a very runny nose tonight, and is having trouble sleeping (no fever or other problems; I'm pretty sure it's just a cold). Will a vaporizer help clear him up? Or is a vaporizer just for stuffiness? Thanks for your help...

  1. Yes the vaporizer will help clear it up. Just becarful what you put it it, as some vapours can cause allergic reactions in babies.

Just ensure that you place it somewhere where he/she can not get at it. As it can cause some nasty burns. Also don't leave it running all night, as they can dry out and cause fires. Just put it on for a few hours before you go to bed, and then again when you wake up.

Even having it on during the day can help.

  2. My daughter has had constant colds since she was 12 months (she's 4 now and doing better).  Taking any kind of antihistamine helps her with a runny nose.  I know some don't agree with giving their child an antihistamine, but it helps!  I have tried benedryl and claritin, both are allergy medicines but they do the job.  I don't think a vaporizer would hurt.

One trick I've learned for when their cough is bad and they are going to sleep: put Vick's on their feet and put socks on them.  Somehow it works, I think it has something to do with our body's detoxifiying method through our feet.  All I know is that its given us restful nights!

    Good luck!

  3. when my son had a vety miserable cold when he was 4 weeks...i ran the shower on hot..got all steamy in there and say with him to clear his nose he would totally relax and fall asleep because he could finially breathe! a vaporizer would def. help also, just  keep his door closed while running it so it works better.

  4. vaporize is bad!

  5. Yes

  6. I thought a vaporizer makes your nose runny because it clears it up? but i could be wrong. Its worth the try.

  7. yes it was what to expect when exp book

  8. You probably dont want to use that on a baby before doctor consent. They tend to have rebound effects, and that will cause A LOT less sleep than right now.
