Question:

Does a vegan-diet really help increase human senses ?

I'm currently involved with a work-out routine with milk and meat being staples in my diet, but this is definitely something I want to try. I heard of people experiencing an increase in all areas of the natural human senses. Is that really true?

  1. Probably because they were hallucinating from starvation!

Okay, just kidding...If you are opposed to eating meat, don't eat it...but a well-balanced diet, regardless of whether it contains meat or not, is the way to increase your senses. Lean meats and fish, lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, limit sugar and refined carbs. Same old story. Vegetarians generally may be getting better vitamin and mineral intake (thereby making them more energetic, alert, aware, etc), whereas us carnivores who count PayDay bars as part of our nut intake probably are a little more lethargic overall.

Also, protein (meat or otherwise) is the way to go to increase your brain power, according to some studies.

  2. A vegan diet is very healthy if you do it correctly.  There are a few traps in a vegan diet that you can find in a web search for vegan + "health hazards".

People who are very healthy in general have better senses than unhealthy people.

  3. I bet it can increase your senses, because it'd be increasing your overall health immensely. If you follow a vegan diet properly, then I believe it to be the healthiest of all diets. You don't actually need meat or milk to be healthy. We have as much protein as we need, and we also have enough calcium. You can get all of these things through fruits, vegetables, complex carbs, and things like beans, seeds, nuts, soy, etc.

It's a blatant lie that we need other animals milk to be healthy. As far as I know the countries who consume the most milk have the highest rates of osteoporosis. Meat is also something our bodies don't actually need. In fact, if I'm correct, too much protein will rob your body of it's calcium. And I believe we are all overdosing on protein. We really don't need as much as you'd think. Of course we need it, but not in the massive quantities that you'd think.

If you are eating a vegan diet, and making sure to have a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, and other protein like beans, seeds, nuts, legumes, etc. then I think you'll be very healthy and your senses will in fact be heightened. I'm just trying the vegan diet now, and I feel awesome so far.

Edit: someone said it's all pro vegan BS, but I could say the same thing about meat and dairy, and how it's all BS from the meat and dairy companies.

I look around me and I see so many people dying from cancers and heart disease and so on, and I KNOW it's not simply from eating too many sweets. I know many vegans who are healthy and strong, and their hair is shiny and they're happy and healthy. Any vegans you see who are sickly are that way because they've most likely cut out meat and dairy, which they were used to, without actually changing the rest of their diets or adding all the healthy things that they should have added... so of course they will be lacking in nutrients. But a REAL vegan diet is extremely healthy and something that I truly believe is the way our bodies should be fed. Even if it wasn't, I wouldn't drink milk for all the hormones and c**p they put in it now. Same for the meat.

  4. No, that's pro-vegan BS.

I just read in some medical literature this morning how meat protein has some unique things in it that your brain needs, for alertness, etc.

I don't eat much meat, in fact, mostly fish & a bit of poultry, so I'm not trying to justify some steak & hamburger diet or whatever.

Have you noticed how sickly most long-term vegans look?

That's from deficiencies of things they need to get, but aren't.

  5. There are numerous health advantages of a vegan diet compared to a typical North American diet, which is high in fat, cholesterol, protein, and low in vegetables.

This is supported by mainstream scientific organizations (see link below).

There's nothing magical about it however, and no reason to believe it enhances the senses.

  6. Actually, my friend got really ill from being a vegan and had a lack in a few vitamins and things.
