  1. No, it does not need to be connected to a computer.

although you might have to connect it during the setup, but i'm not all to sure about that. none of the computers in my house are connected to it.

one of my friends has a whole separate network with a wireless router in his pool house for his xbox. it is not connected to a computer, he doesn't even have a computer in his pool house.

  2. a wireless router needs to be connected to something with a wire - normally the phone line...

all other computers should be able to connect wirelessly, providing they have wireless capability...

  3. No, a wireless router does not need to be connected to a computer with a wire.  The name it says it for itself "WIRELESS."  You can have a wireless router that has a wired connection, but it is not necessary.  I just did it last night, it works fine without a wire.  The only reason you would need a wire for the connection is if you are sitting right next the router, but again that is not necessary. Personally, I find using wireless better that wired because it is faster.

  4. If the computer is WIFI capable, then no wire is required.  Most laptops are WIFI capable.  But, on the same note, most desk top computers are not WIFI capable, and need to have a WIFI card installed before they can receive a WIFI signal.

Note:  Be sure to encrypt your signal so that it is not visible outside of your system or network.
