Question:

Does a written signature have to be your name?

My parents are getting mad because I sign all my school documents and such as "Grr I'm A Kitty." They told me it makes it look like someone else signed it and that only name can be used as signatures.

Can't I write however I want my signature to be?

  1. Not everyone can sign your name like you do, which is the purpose of the signature: a security feature. What's wrong with just using your name? Plus, "Grr I'm a Kitty" if very VERY juvenile.

  2. Well when people are illiterate, like back in the olden days when African Americans did not learn how to read or write they just signed an X or a symbol. So i think its possible, but people will think that your interesting and childish. Although I completely respect you for wanting to be unique and creative!

  3. I understand you want to be unique and all, but your parents are just concerned for you. Everything has its place and using such a childish signature for signing formal documents gives a bad impression. Some people might even think that it was a prank. You can use that signature when writing to friends and such, but don't do it for the really important legal and formal documents! Can you imagine what a prospective employer would think if you handed in a resume with that kind of signature?

  4. Some advice: When you start applying for jobs, don't sign your application letter with "Grr I'm a Kitty."  But I'm guessing you're about 8 years old. So, it may be OK for now.

  5. legally, it's your name.  you would sign a contract grr, i'm a kitty?  do you understand this is a site for people at least 13 years old and older?

  6. I know of a number of instances where a nickname was used in the signing of a person's Last Will and Testament.  One particular one I remember was when a man signed his will as just "Pop."

  7. no offense your weirddd.

its either you first , your middle or your last name.

    grow upp .

  8. yes, it should be the name you go by. "Grr I'm A Kitty" could be anyone. If it were your name documented legally then you'd be just fine. Try gettng any checks cashed by endorsing them with "Grr I'm A Kitty" and see how mad you'll get when you're shown the door.
