does a yellow jacket make there nest in the ground or do they steel another insects nest ?????????????

  1. Yessiree. Be careful this time of year.  They make their own.  


  2. Yep they make an underground nest,  but they'll use any underground soil cavity such as a mouse burrow. They'll also make a paper nest like paper wasps.

  3. My father had the misfortune of plowing into an underground yellow jacket nest.  Luckily the family truck was nearby so we could escape the very upset hornets.  It took about a half an hour for the yellow jackets to calm down.

    Yellow jackets and other hornets play a role in insect control.  They capture caterpillars to feed to the developing hornet larvae.
