Does age have to deal with being a resturant waiter?

16 is the minimum age of applying at most resturants to be a waiter. Would a 16 year old have the same skills/ qualifications as say a 18-20 year old?

Depends on the person... some 16 year old kids are very mature, some aren't - some have good people skills, some don't

The most important thing about working in the food service industry is people skills ... are you friendly? Courteous? Helpful? Can you get along with difficult people? Do you work well with others?

Therefore, it really shouldn't matter how old you are ...

If you see a resturant requiring you to be at least 18 years of age it is because as a server, you would be serving alchol.  Legally, you are unable to serve alcohol until the age of 18.  However, if you are applying somewhere like a diner or small family resturant then you would be fine at 16.  I believe the cut off for child labor laws are either 15 or 16.  So it all depends on what kind of serving you will be doing.  Skills wise I believe if you try hard and are quick- you can be a good server at 16, 18 or 25. i started serving under the table at 15! generally age-related rules for work stem from concerns over child-labor abuses (you might want to learn a bit of history of the labor movement) and the dangers of work-related injuries: hot foods, heavy trays, tired arms, etc

if you have never worked as a server, you might not realize the pressure and hard work involved

Depends.  If you grew up in household where serving was a common place thing you might have better skills than no one that was ever exposed to it.

a 16 year old waiter would have the same skills as  a 18 year old if they was both doing it for the first time

and it depends on the restaurant the age you can be a Waiter

as long as there is no beer or other alcoholic beverages being served then 16 should be old enough
