I have Dish, and I have to share a box with the other members of my family, does all satellite TV do this?

  1. Dish does use dual tuner receivers to save the customers money.  This might be what you're talking about.  

    Say you have 4 rooms, you could do two dual tuners and pay $5 more for the second box.  If you do four individual tuners it would cost you $15.  

    The installer could have also split one of the outputs to feed two tvs instead of one.  This was probably done to save you money also.


  2. No, you can just request another box for any additional rooms that you want. Call Dish Network and let them know, if you've been a customer of theirs for a while, they will probably give you standard boxes for free. If not, switch to directv, they'll give you up to a 5 room setup for free.
