what tack has to be fitted and what tack dosen't?

I mean does a bridel have to be fitted or is it like 'one size fits all?'

Does a girth have to be fitted?

  1. Yes because it is just like us need fitting BUT one difficult thing with tack is the saddle it has to fit you aswell as your horse. There is no such thing as the perfect sized saddle for a horse but there are close encounters. Ask your local saddlery if they do round with saddle sizing or take multiple pictures of your horses height, back, backbone (sides and top views) girth, stomach(front & back)

    Goodluck =D

  2. just like all your shoes, t-shirts, jeans, and undergarments fit you just right

all tack must fit a horse just right

  3. Yes,, Yes.. Yes..  YOU HAVE TO FIT TACK

We just switched to a different saddle with my horse because I thought the same thing when I first bought her 1 year ago and got a saddle and at the time it fit her well from then to now I have gone through two saddles because she is growing and changing (she was out to pasture for 4 years) Recently my horse has been bucking, rearing, bolting and that was all results of ill fitting saddle.. and  with other tack your girth is like your bra if you have it too tight it hurts and I mean tight to some extent is ok but not too tight, And for bit I dont know if you know but theirs only a small gap with out teeth and your bit has to sit comfortably their or your going to have issues with head or even just rearing.. I have seen this all use to board at a barn where everything fit every horse.. It was scarry.. PLEASE have your tack fitted you will end up with a scared horse if you dont and let it go..

  4. Yes they do but the good thing is that most things are pretty easy to do by yourself. Bridles generally come in 4 sizes, pony, cob, full size and extra full - they are marked as P,C,FS AND XL. You buy the size that's closest and then adjust the buckles for a good fit. The same goes for martingales, breastplates etc.

A girth - you measure for the size you need ( in inches) and there is no adjustment on the actual girth - that comes in when you fasten it to the billets on the saddle.

Bits come in different sizes - in both width and thickness, there is a device you can buy to measure your horse for bit size - ( not a very good picture but all I could find)

    http://www.bitofbritain.com/v/vspfiles/p...

Boots (brushing boots overreach boots etc) you just buy these in a size to fit. - there are no actual adjustments on them ( apart from how tight you fasten them)

Rugs - you have to measure the length of your horse and get the right size and even then some rugs are made for skinnier horses.

Numnahs and saddle pads tend to come in P,C,FS sizes.

    Headcollars are P,C,FS and ZL

Pretty complicated when you think about it.

There is really nothing that is one size fits all.

    Edit - Oh look - a Troll !

  5. Yes it depends on the size of your horse or pony.

Firstly Fitting a bridle is quite easy. If you have a pony for example a pony size bridle will prob fit them. When fitting a bridle you have to make sure that the browband is not too tight at there ears. It must sit about 1 finger away. The nose band if a normal cavasson should be 2 fingers below the check bone. What kind of nose band do you wear on them?

The saddle should be fitted by someone very experienced.

They will be able to tell you how to do it.

A girth comes in loads of different sizes. If you ask your local saddlery what is the average size for the height of your pony they should be ale to get you the correct one... it keeps things simple asking them.

A bit should have 1 finger space on each side.

Other things like a numnagh comes in pony, cob, or full size.

    Boots also come this way.

Rugs come in loads of different sizes. just tell your saddlery what height your pony is and they can get the right size for you.

Everything really needs to be fitted except a tail bandage!!

  6. A Bridle has 5 sizes mini, pony, cob, full and warmblood.

a bit has 4 sizes mini, pony, cob, full.

a girth comes in all sizes from 40cm-190cm long

  7. yes, your tack should be fitted for your horse.  A bridle can be adjusted so that the bit does not hang too low in the mouth and bang on your horse's teeth.

A saddle should be fitted so that the gullet does not sit on top of your horse's withers causing pain and sores.

Buy the proper saddle and pad and you will be fine.

You will get the most out of your horse and have a nice ride if the horse is comfortable.  Hope this helps.

  8. yes they all have to be fitted

because a certain brand of saddle could have a wider tree that is bad for a certain horse's back

a bridle is not 'one size fits all' because a welsh pony does not have the same size head as an arabian. the sizes are mini, pony, cobb, horse, and draft.

a girth has to be fitted because one horse can be fatter than another, and a pony needs a shorter girth than a horse because a horse has a longer length around the stomach.

a bit has to be fitted because horses have different shaped mouths, and bigger and smaller mouths.

  9. yes they all have 2 be fitted

  10. yes it dose

  11. They don't all have to be preofessionally "fitted" but they all come in different sizes.

Bridles generally come in Mini, Pony, Cob, Horse, Draft sizes.

Girths come in 2" increments so you need to put your  saddle on your horse and measure from billet to billet.  Girth needs change with each saddle and each horse.

Bits come in 1/4" sizes.  Average horses go in a 5" to a 5 1/2".  Find out what size the horse is using now, check to see it fits properly, and use that as yourf gauge.

If you have a trainer ask her to recommend sizes and she will probably be able to tell you just by looking at your horse.

    Hope This Helps!

  12. Yes it does,

saddles, bridles, rugs etc etc, if it doesn't fit it could impare your horses ability to move or in a saddles case could cause saddle sores and other things.

    Bridles

normally come in 4-5 sizes: Shetland, Pony, Cob, Horse, X-large

    Girths

come in heaps of sizes get a girth thats long enough to do up on both sides on the saddle, there are diferenet types of girths talk to the people at your local saddlery to see which girth is right for you.

    Rugs

Measure around from where you want the rug to begin then around the body where the chest strap would do up(horizontally) and back around to where you want the rug to end. The answer in feet is how big the rug will be.

    Halter/Headstall

Try and get the right size for your horse, if you cant a bigger halter is always better than a small one as you can put more holes in it

Go to your local saddlery/ horseland (Aus) and they will tell you/fit your horse with the right size tack etc.

    GOOD LUCK
