  1. No. US Citizens are permitted to visit up to four months without a visa for business and tourist stays. The only thing you need to have is your passport and an onward ticket (plane, cruise, or otherwise).  http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/tips/...

I'm an American citizen who now lives in Tunisia. Before moving here I visited Tunisia a few times (stayed about a month each time) and never needed a visa. In fact, I never got residency here in Tunisia - I go on vacation every four months (sometimes an actual vacation, sometimes just a day trip to Paris or Venice or somewhere in Europe).

Since you will have a day to spend in Tunisia, if you tell me where you will spend your day, I can suggest some things for you to do or see, or nice restaurants for you to eat at.

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

  2. TUNISIA - *Passport and onward/return ticket required. Visas not required for tourist/business stay of up to 4 months.  For longer visits, Americans need a residence permit, which may be requested and obtained from the central police station of the district of residence. For more information, consult Embassy of Tunisia, 1515 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20005 (202/862-1850).
