HDMI is capable of handling both the video and sound.  There are some bugs with HDMI that the marketing companies aren't telling the public.  So if you try using it for both and it doesn't work, it may not be your cable, but the units that you are plugging it into.  Another thing to consider is that there may be settings in your hardware that will need to be changed to get sound through HDMI.

  3. like stated above  yes it does it all, but because it is an interface  (High Def. Multimedia Interface--like a computer network) it has a unknown problem with certain components not "shaking hands" not only between manufacturers, but also between products within some manufacturers lines---this is where the statement "keep your reciept!" comes in
