  1. Their sponsors probably pay them more. I know that some countries, such as China, pay their athletes if they get the gold, so the world record being broken probably is a bonus. The USA does not participate in this "Gold Medal Salary" practice, however.


  2. The Olympics itself doesn't pay out any cash rewards. However, although the countries aren't allowed to actually pay their athletes, sometimes governments will give out awards to those who medal. Often (and, for that matter, they may have to be), these rewards are non-monetary. This is more prominent in countries where winning a medal is less common than some of the Olympics' more prominent participants.

  3. i don;t know about worrld records but they get payed for the medals
