Does an expensive shaft make a difference in a girl's lacrosse stick?

I've been searching around for a shaft, as I have a STX ATK head. The prices for the shaft are either moderate or really expensive...but does the shaft itself really matter in your performance? If so, what kinds of shafts are good?

  1. It is really all about comfort, and usually the better the stick feels, the better you play.  The best shaft is the one that feels the best in your hands.  There are many different shapes - octagonal, teardrop, round, ect. Some have bumps, holes or tapers. Also they come in different diameters, women's diameter is thinner than men's.

There are 2 main types of materials used to make shafts, metal alloys and composites made of graphite and fiberglass.  The composites usually have the nice soft coating, pretty graphics and are more expensive. Metal alloys are lighter and stronger and are more affordable unless you are looking at high - end titanium shafts (Which are unnecessary for the women's game because there isnt any hitting!). Also most of the heads on the market should fit the ATK!

Great Composites - STX quake, STX Fade, DeBeer Triax Composite and Brine Optimum

Great Alloys - DB 803 titanium

  2. wats a shaft jk yes it efects your performance summwat i would get something good and just because it expensive doesn't mean its good

  3. Shafts are important, but they aren't everything. Some people think that a lighter shaft helps you feel the ball in your stick more, and some think that the slightly heavier shaft makes your shot faster.

If you like having a tapered shaft then Harrow makes an excellent one (title ix).

Shafts also come with powder coating, some are smooth, some are just metal, and some have a rubberized grip.

The Northwestern wildcats use metal shafts. But the Penn Team uses Harrow graphite shafts. They are both AMAZING teams, and use different shafts

But I think that whatever shaft you have should FEEL comfortable to you.

When you go to practice, ask your friends if you can try their stick, and try a bunch of different shafts out out and see which one feels the most comfortable to you.

It's all a matter of personal preference.

  4. You should always get the best shaft that you can.
