  1. dont think they use all m4a or aac as the special itunes plus are called m4a or aac and this is a new selling point for them (its a new selling point as these files can be transfered to other MP3 players, not just i pods) this indicates that the itunes plus is different from the normal itunes. Which would mena that not all itunes are m4a or aac.

Not sure exactly how it works to be honest, if maybe apple put a ban on them being transfered to anything other then an Ipod or they are just special mp3 tracks that are only compatable with an ipod but safe as to say, I dont think they are m4a or aac, I think they are a different sort of file.

Maybe ask apple, they will probably tell you something along the lines of it being their own format which is trademarked, licened and copyrighted, hence the reason only apple type mp3 players (eg i-pods) can use it. There are some (illegal) programmes on the net which will make apple itunes that are not itines-plus (eg m4a or aac type) playable on any MP3 player, and vice versa,: make any apple ipod accept any music down load like for example napster which does use m4a and aac files.

    Hope that helps!

  2. ipod's work in m4a but you can convert mp3 to m4a or the other way with some free softeware called switch.
