I have a computer that is pretty old, and my broadband download speed is only 26.0kbs and friend's computer which is newer the mine, has a broadband download speed of 200-600kbs and we both are on the same internet broadband plan.

Can someone please explain to me what is wrong?

(My internet speed has always been like that)

  1. most likely it is a spyware or registry problem. ( the age doesnt really effect the speed, trust me the computers they used at my high school were like 10 years old, and had fast broadband).

id suggest gettin a spyware removing program, and a registry cleaning program. you can fine free ones all over the internet.

  2. The oldest Ethernet Card has a maximum throughput of 10 MILLION BITES PER SECOND.  So it is not the card.  Maybe you should just back up your computer.  Format the harddrive and load up the operating system and all the drivers.  Go to windows and update the operating system.  There are always updates.  Even though you maybe have windows 98 there are updates on the microsoft site to your software.  But no new updates.

A clean install will do wonders to a old machine.
