Question:

Does an ovarian cyst blow the whole cycle?

I've had very bad side pain, similiar to the cyst I had before, this month since the time ovulation should have occured but it's still there after 4 days. I'm pretty sure it's a cyst. Does that make this cycle a bust for my TTC efforts?

  1. During a regular cycle you will produce a follicle (fluid filled cyst) that is the "home" of an "egg".  When you ovulate the follicle ruptures and the "egg" is released.  That follicle stays intact and at the point of conception and implantation, the follicle starts to produce progesterone to help sustain a pregnancy.  It's not abnormal at all to have cysts still....even when you start another cycle the next month.  Being there after 4 days is indifferent.  I wish you the best of luck TTC.  If you get worried, you can always have your OB do a mid-cycle ultrasound (around d-12) and then again around d-16.  They would probably also do some blood work.  Best Wishes!!

  2. Not at all!

Were you aware that a cyst forms after ovulation very often?

  3. No it doesn't b;low your chances but if you are taking fertility meds then you can;t until it has shrunk enough. I am not sure at the rate they usually shrink. I go for an ultrasound tomorrow to see if mine shrunk enough for me to have a medicated cycle this month. Just keep having intercourse because the cyst is probably on the ovary that is not ovulatin this month anyway.

  4. I asked a question similar to this this morning. Perhaps I should have worded it differently to get more answers... I think that it depends on the type of cyst. I've had cysts before that pretty much destroyed my egg or any chance of producing an egg. But, I've also heard that you can have cysts while pregnant and still be okay. So it does definitely depend. Did your doctor tell you what kind it was before? I think we are in the same boat, so I'm sending you some baby dust. :)
