what is happening in the economy right now, for those that dont have jobs, has it been difficult in getting just an interview, do you feel like work isnt worth it, considering you will be paying ridiculous gas prices justtogo to work, and above that the weak dollar will hardly buy you anything. Inflation is so high, money is almost worthless, why bother working for a currency that has little value. Above all, the economy is going to get much worse, the value of the dollar will continue dopping, unemployment rate will continue going up, you will be working for nothing really. Does anybody else feel this way, or what do you think. I've been looking for a decent paying job for the last month, and havnt been able to get an interview, am I the only one.

  1. No! You are not the only one, I've been an american all my life and I also feel the pain...

I've been looking for a simple job for the past couple months now, only to not get far enough even for an interview. The gas prices are so freaking ridiculous, how are we going to pay for this? It's getting especially rough for those of us that make minimum wage, or a little above.

We hardly have any food in our fridge right now, due to lack of money. Do you realize how freakin tired I am of eating chicken patties and top ramen!?! I've had those everyday for lunch now for a week...because they're cheap.

Also, I know many people that are losing their houses and businesses and downsizing their life to a simple apartment or condo etc.

Good god we feel it, you're not the only one.

  2. Finding a job has been impossible for me too and I decided I just won't work this summer.  It's not worth it with the gas prices and that hassle that taking a job requires.  I have a job at college so I'll just rely on that.  But yes, I feel like Americans are totally clueless.  People are only starting to trying to find ways to drive less and spend less right now; they should've been trying to not be so wasteful always though!

  3. The price of metal is worth far more than human skill right now and everyone is feeling. It is more economical to go on welfare than it is to work. You are not the only one. It is a US disaster. We are overpopulated and underpaid. People are losing everything while gas companies have exploding pockets. It's like the great Bubble of 1929 when the stock market crashed.

There are job openings where I live in Texas. There are plenty of Job openings, but you have to be illegal or perfect to qualify for one of those jobs.

In the past couple of months there have been new laws started where each employer has to now not only run your credit to hire you but now they have to approve you through Homeland Security. If you have ever had anything on your record you aren't good enough to provide for yourself and your family. They don't want you and they don't care if you end up on the street.

They have been running credit checks on potential employees in my area for several years now, and recently they have raised the bar on it. You have to have a 700 or above credit score to get an interview. That's never cool considering the fact that if you are applying for a job it usually means you don't already have one. If you don't have one then you aren't paying bills, and your credit is bad or low. It's discrimination against anyone who isn't independantly wealthy. Getting a job these days is like applying for car insurance when you just got your liscense and you've already had 2 accidents. If we had a democrat in office this would never have happened. America almost hit a slump like this in the 80's and Bill Clinton pulled us out of it. With the two guys running now, either way we are doomed. There is no hope.

The best bet for anyone right now is to go on welfare, and do side work that your local government can't make you pay taxes on.

  4. I'm not surprised no one will hire you with that attitude

  5. Americans are largely clueless as to what is occurring in the economy now. Much of the current economic hardship can be attributed to our Federal Reserve Bank's expansion of the money supply. By inflating our money supply, the government hopes to diminish the relative size of the national debt. By setting interest rates too low, the Federal Reserve created a huge housing bubble that has now popped. Additionally, the Greenspan Fed "juiced" the economy with additional money supplies and low interest rates to avert a natural and needed recession after the 2001 dot-com collapse. Inflation is purely a monetary phenomenon, but it has many insidious effects. For a detailed look at it's effects through economic history, I recommend one reads Fischer's excellent work "The Great Wave, Price Inflation and the Rythms of History".

There's also several good authors publishing blogs that will clarify what's really going on. I'll list them below

  6. Open the window and let some sun in my friend! Just because the news is telling you how poor we are and how bad things have become, doesn't mean you should just roll over and wilt. People become what they are told they are. So start by shutting off the news.

Also, there are no great jobs in the want-ads. The best jobs aren't advertised. So find a company you want to work for, apply, and tell them you will work your way up. If you don't want to do that then you are in trouble.

  7. you're not the only one buddy.  the other responders here agree and i feel the same way as you do.  its hard trying to find a job these days...i once didn't even get a reply.  i'm going to try my luck but i doubt anything will happen.  I'm a bit peeved at this slow economy and i hope things get better.  I think only now have other people gotten the wake up call and started taking measures to reduce their costs.  not driving so much, buying just necessities, biking, and doing other things that don't require usage of cars or using money on unnecessary goods have only been occurring lately.  yet what im afraid of is that when things get better, people will go back to their bad habits.  some may go buy bad mortgages, companies will probably try to defraud people on mortgages again, people will go spend overly on credit, and they'll buy SUVs and big gas guzzlers.  that's kinda what happened in the 90s and early 2000s.  but I really hope people just will be more careful with their consumption and take it easy.  Not too easy to where businesses do poorly, but not excessive either to where they build up debt and buy mortgages they can't afford.

That's partially why our economy is bad.  But enough blaming, its time for action.  The government needs to watch its spending too and work with the generals/leaders in Iraq to form good plans to help Iraq continue to improve and get the Iraqi government to help their people, spend more money on their people (all of this would reduce costs) (and yeah, even if it doesn't help reduce our costs, the Iraqi government will have to provide social services to the people one day, we can't provide everything for them).  And we need a better diplomatic, international policy so that we avoid expensive wars and high tension which lead to high gas prices.

We also need to invest in alternate energy.  Provide tax breaks to companies that produce vehicles and other things that use alternate energy.  Use a cap and trade system, etc.

If we do all of this, if the government starts taking fiscally responsible, more enviornmentally friendly steps and if consumers start being more careful and conservative with how they drive (as in cutting down on driving and using other methods such as bus) and how they spend their money (i'm not saying people shouldn't spend their money, they should but they should also be a little more careful), things would be better.

And some tax cuts to the middle class would be nice.  Tax cuts to some of the poor too (along with more EITC). The govt is out of touch sometimes with the people and handing tax cuts to the rich that could be better used for 1. Programs perhaps?  2. Tax cuts for the middle class and poor  3. Money that could be used to reduce the deficit  4. Investment in alternate energy or tax cuts to companies that use a lot of alternate energy.

And yes the deficit has led to a high national debt which cuts down the value of the dollar.  Now some may question- aren't giving tax cuts to the middle class and poor going to increase the deficit?  Maybe..but by giving them tax cuts they'll put more money into the system. But most of all, they'll have relief...with prices so high, a nice tax cut to them will bring nice relief to them.  There needs to be a tax increase on the rich to negate any revenue loss for tax cuts to middle and lower class and to raise revenue to cut down the deficits.

Sorry...I went on a rant.  I just wish the govt was smarter in how it handled some things.  I also wish the economy would be better.
