  1. Yes, they would hire locals for a variety of reasons. To lead them to a site or carry and set up equipment, etc.

  2. I guess I wouldn't exactly say that it involves it in the way that she may be thinking of like the Peace-corps or the WHO, but many times overseas projects can incorporate local labor for large scale projects... but it is usually not like Hollywood shows it anymore where they have natives hauling buckets of dirt all day long.  Most Anthropology would deal with human cultures, either current subcultures or historic / prehistoric cultures that are long gone.  Though there are also branches dealing with C.S.I. style stuff with bones and dead people... but usually not overseas.

  3. I thought anthropology was the study of ancient people. I remember having to learn about cavemen in a college class, australopithicus, or something. Society & culture study would possibly be more  advantageous overseas. You may not want to step on toes, not knowing certain customs.

  4. it means working with all kinds of people in all kinds of places around the world.

  5. Anthropology is a huge field.  There is plenty of overseas work, if that's what your daughter wants.

On the other hand, there's no REQUIREMENT to travel to become an anthropologist.
