  1. I've read a few books, probably the best one being by Sklansky.  He keeps it pretty simple, yet focusses on the essentials.

Here's a quick summary of how to win:

1.Learn Basic Strategy.  Basically that means memorizing a chart which tells you when to hit and when to stand, as well as when to surrender, split, double, etc. (See the chart in the link below.)  If you learn basic strategy perfectly, you're limiting your losses to around 1% under standard game structure.

2.Learn to count cards.  With decent card counting, you can turn that 1% loss only using basic strategy into a 1% gain, or more, depending on the game structure.  There's various counting strategies.  The most popular is the +/- strategy where you count backwards (negative) when you see a ten or ace and you count upwards (positive) when you see any other kind of card.  When the count gets high enough, then you know to increase your bet size, because that means that you've got a "good count".  Likewise, if your count runs into the negative then you want to make the minimum bet or maybe even leave the table if the count is low enough.

3.Learn what constitutes a "good" game.  A good game has deep deck penetration and/or smaller number of decks.  Another thing that makes a good game is a large gap between the table min bet and max bet, because when you get a good card count, you want to raise the bet size as high as you can afford (maybe 1% to 3% of your total bankroll to account for variance).  You probably want a table where the max bet is at least 10x the min bet.

Also, you'll probably want a bankroll maybe 100x the max bet size.  So if you're playing $10-$100, you should try for a bankroll of maybe 10 grand.  Of course, you could give it a go with a bankroll a smaller fraction of that, maybe 2 grand, but it really increases your chances of losing your whole bankroll just with a bad run of bad luck.

Finally, you'll probably want to practice counting cards for at least 10-20 hours until you can count down 3 or more decks perfectly without having to think about it.  Just start with one deck, laying the cards down, counting them, slow at first, then as quickly as you can always being as accurate as possible.  When you can do one deck easily, then start with 2 decks, 3 decks, etc.
