I have a lawn of approx. 400 sq feet and a terrace of approx. 2500 sq feet, which I want to utilise for recharging ground water by using run-off rain water as we get above average annual rain in central Uttar Pradesh, where I stay.

  4. i would advise setting up a small water tower, and running a soak hose thru your garden that would drip water from the tower.  i have also seen many people cut plastic milk jugs in half, and bury the small opening into the ground to collect the rainwater and drip it into their gardens.

  5. Apart from the subsidies, in Chennai, it is by law, that you need to do rain water harvesting. So it is legal compliance.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s budget speech last year made many people sit up and applaud. Echoing the voice of the poor, Chidambaram said that although water harvesting schemes were specific to a village they were extremely useful in overcoming local water scarcity. Announcing a capital subsidy of 50%, with a total allocation of Rs 100 crore towards water harvesting, the finance minister’s budget speech made amends for the serious neglect of the poor by the previous regime.

  8. Have strong doubts as history informs our babus do not have time, energy or inclination for such wild thoughts like ecology, environments etc. else the very look of urban planning would have been very different. The fact that most are not aware if there is a subsidy for such a good cause is a sample of concerns.
