Does any body here knows how to use Linux Debian OS?

I would like create a database and store some data using the Linux Debians built in RDBMS called PostgreSQL. I have PostgreSQL-8.1 package installed on my Linux system.

Can I please have somebody offer some help please.

  1. I guess my first question is what kind of help are you after? Debian itself is an open source Linux distro you can download and install from the web.

    You can get a pure Debian distro (I believe "Lenny" is the new bleeding edge) from that site, or you can get a Debian based distro like Unbuntu.

    PostgreSQL is an open source database and as far as I know, you can install it in just about any flavor of Linux, they all have a version available. It is not "built into" Debian, but can certainly be installed and run.

    Your best sources of help will be the forum for the distro you end up running. Database specific help will be found on the PostgreSQL web site.

    I run OpenSuse, and I definitely do not have all the answers, but feel free to e-mail me if you have general questions or need some direction
