  1. There are several Hohenfels in Germany:

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohenfels

plus a few places with this name in  Austria and Switzerland.

Do you have a postal code, the name of the area or a name of a nearby city?

  2. Hohenfels is a very rural area and culture wise there is not much to do. If your into nature then you have plenty of forests to walk or mountain bike through.

I would suggest either buying or renting a car, I am not sure about the train system, but Nuremberg is close by and there are plenty of thing to do in that area. When I was single my favorite place to visit was Erlangen, which is just a little north of Nuremberg. Erlangen is a big University town and there are plenty of student pubs, outdoor cafes, parks, fests and shopping opportunities. "Fest" is a word you will want to learn. They have an spring fest on a mountain that is just great,

Depending upon how long you are going to be in Germany I would suggest total cultural immersion, learn the language and culture and partake and indulge. One of the things that I like about Europe is the if You get tired of the German culture, Italy, France, and Spain are just a train ride away.

  3. YES Hohenfels is very pretty but also a dead place ( small place) there are big cities around like Amberg Regensburg ,Nuernberg which are very nice to go shopping or sit outside in a cafe.about the sightseeing i know and i have been there when we was stationed in Vilseck  the schloss new schwanstein is a must to see it was so nice ..well good luck and have lots of fun in Germany

  4. I know where you're going.  It's near Vilsek.  There isn't anything really "there" but Nuernburg isn't too far away.  Hohenfels/Vilsek/Grafenwohr all seem to fall under the same weather system, while the rest of Germany falls under a different one.  Don't ask me why, but I've seen in snow in July there while the rest of Germany was nice and warm.

  5. I never been there before but soon. We are going to Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels is just few km from there.

This area is really boring, the next huge cities are Nuernberg (there is the famous Christmas market) 100 km, Ravensburg 100km. to the border Chechen 50-60 miles.

The areas Grafenwoehr, Hohenfels and Vilseck just little villages with population (each) 6000-8000 people and there is some little cities like Weiden and Amberg.

Most the area is for the US Military training area. You hear the whole day shooting. Look at the map (South East Germany).

    See you there....

  6. Well i do know that Hohenfels is an area that the american army trains in. (I used to bein the army) As everyone else says though its dead. You can go toNuernberg or Prague. Or Munich there are tons to do in Germany. Also try to rent a bike the bike trails there can be really breathtakinly beautiful!

  7. You are not a far drive from Prague, Czech Republic.  Get a passport and see this city by all means.
