I have taken on too much I think? She has always been critical but it's gotten just down right mean now. I take care of her and do get paid for it but the emotional tole I'm afraid is going to affect me for the rest of my life and I may just become a seriosly disturbed person if I cannot learn how to handle her and not leave in tears every other day. Any advice on teqniques to save myself from permanant self confidence damage would be greatly appriciated. PS she's a diabetic too.I'm 38 years old and feel about 13.

  1. You are a martytr and a saint  -yeah yeah I know - you have no choice.

On the wierdly bright side - you get paid?! - not the UK I take it!!

Go for and lean on any health service people who are involved, ask for help and advice. This situation you live and breathe is not only about your Mum  -you need support as a carer also.

It is a frankly f ******d up situation that we children have no choice but to become heavily involved. You do - your damned, you don't, your damned.

I have much sympathy with you and your sick Mum.

TAKE ANY HELP THEY OFFER, AND SEEK FURTHER HELP FOR YOU.

Seabeck Man - keep trying, you are obviously making an effort. I don't even know you, but am happy for you, go go go! Make life for living again!

  2. Ooooh, you have one too?  I can't really give you any advice, I'm sorry.  They don't get any better with age, do they?

  3. Have you joined the family and friends support group run by Alanon? It is run by people who have and/ or are in situations like yourself. At least they may have some real suggestions, and support for you. Good luck.

  4. Im sure you know that alcoholism is a disease. If your mom dosnt get clean she will never change.  If you are 38, id say it is time to stop taking care of your mother if she dosnt commit to getting help. Im an alcoholic and have been clean for 21 days.  im sure you love your mom so its preety hard to just let her fall on her face, but mabe thats what needs to happen. hope i helped.
