A friend of mine is looking for her dads obituary, who died in 1978. I have access, by account, to a public records search, found his SSN, and Death certificate, so i have all the info I need. are there any sites that are either free, or charge a small one time access fee, that I could go to, for his obituary. I have all ready tried Newspaper archives, Google, and can't get access to his state library website.

  1. Try the newspapers in the area where he died.  Most newspapers have archives of their obituaries. Some online, some snailmail.  Most aren't expensive.

If you have his death certificate, you could also try the funeral home listed on it.  They usually place the obits in the papers and  frequently have a copy in their files.

    Good luck.

  2. Browse through the genealogy sites to see if someone else might already have this information.

  3. http://www.tedpack.org/obit.html

has four methods, with links and tips, for obtaining an obit.
