  1. Buy the cute stickers w/prices already on them in the stationary/office supply section.  Price everything. Smile and greet people as the arrive to make the feel comfortable looking at your stuff, adverstise on craigslist or some other site.  Have money to make change, a calculator (just in case) and be ready to haggle, there are people that go to yard sales every weekend and are ready for a deal. Also, have bags for books and shoes. Display things so that people don't have to dig through boxes.  Also, call a charity to come get anything you don't want back in the house, most will send a truck to pick up what's left.

  2. Advertise is very important. Make sure you have the items cleaned and clearly marked. Have lots of change and bags for the customers. Always allow for some price lowering.

  3. Try to mark as much as you can.  Clothes will sell better if they are hung.  You can put little stuff in a box or bin and label .50 .25 etc.  Always be ready to negotiate.  But most of all make it fun.  Good Luck!!

  4. See the attached link with a bunch of tips.

  5. Have lots of help and start planning several weeks in advance.  Clean up the stuff you are selling and price it low-people want bargains.  Borrow some long tables and clothes racks. Have someone man the money box at all times, someone to roam around amongst the shoppers, watch out for shoplifters, yes some people are that low. And be prepared to open early, if your sign says 8:00, people will start showing up at 7,  put NO EARLY SALES on your signs.
