i was wondering how you count stuff that you use in cooking... for instance, if your making a stir fry, do you add in the calories from all the oil you use to cook?

this might be a dumb question... i was hoping in cooking though that maybe some of the oil sort of evaporates... but i guess it gets absorbed in the veggies and it counts then huh?

thanks. i know it's not a strictly veg question but this section is more active then the other cooking sections...

  1. Yes, it does count and you're right, the oil gets absorbed into the food.

Either use less of what you're normally using, or you can use some cooking sprays (adds a trivial amount of calories/fat) or vegetable broth instead. I actually use Imagine's No-chicken broth (sometimes by itself and sometimes with canola or olive oil). Love the flavor and it's great for stir-frys, plus it virtually calorie free compared to oil!

  2. Yes..you add the calories from oil.

  3. check and see what it says raw and cooked and how many calories per pot or per sevings and then you add it up, on average i woman consumes 1,500 no more unless she is pregnant then you need 2,000  eg 1 egg raw 30 calories if it is fried in olive oil its 100 calories THIS IS JUST A GUIDE LINE.

  4. You can use a low fat spray oil for stir frys. If it feels a little dry add water a bit into the cooking to keep everything moist and prevent burning.

  5. I used to actually count the calories before but not anymore. I'm pretty  familiar with what's good and what's not so I moderate what I put in my food. I stay away or limit the obvious, fats, oils, sugars etc. But in general, I am comfortable cooking with what the dish calls for. I just eat less if I know it is relatively high in calories.
