There are two things of significance on the criminal front.  

First, the bus drivers are under seige because of refusal to pay the "mara tax."

The second issue is that 30 policemen were taken hostage by a mob of farmers.  More than 100 protesters surrounded a police station and took the police hostage to gain the release of a Mayan leader who was arrested.
