Does any one know any tips for my bird?

Question

I had a cocktail for 2 years almost 3 years now. And he doesn't know how to talk yet. We have amirror in his cage but he still doesn't talk. Does any one know what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to help him talk? Thanks in advanced.

Some cockatiels never learn to talk and in my experience, I have only seen males be the talkers.

Take the mirror out of his cage for a few reasons... if he sees that as is primary friend, he may nip at you when you try to take him away from "his friend". Also, his buddy is speaking the same language as him, so he has no reason to learn "your language".  

This is going to sound like strange advice but I learned it from a very well known show breeder and it has held true for me... teach him his words in "his voice".  Cockatiels seem to pick up speech faster when you use a voice similar to theirs - it almost sounds like a high pitched chipmunk voice but hearing it in a tone more similar to what they are able to mimic seems to make it easier to them.

Its not just cockatiels that don't talk. Some parrots/parakeets talk some don't. You've done nothing wrong. If you really want to get him to talk you could try and record your voice on a tape and place it by his cage. Leave it on constant replay while your out. Hope this helps. But don't be disappointed just because he doesn't talk. Just love him for who he is :D.

I had a cockatiel for 5 years, it was already old when i got him, and he NEVER said a word lols.  I think for cockatiels you'll only get the pitch of words. It wont be actually speaking like full sized parrots or wild minahs.  All the cockatiels i heard "talking" were all of only whistle pitched.  Unlessyou meant a cockatoo o.O then idk maybe those guys can talk like reg parrots.
