  1. IF MEMORY SERVES ME WHEN MY FATHER  AND ALL OF US WERE STATIONED OVER THERE, WE COULD BUY  A 'EURO PASS' [not the same as the movie] AND TRAVEL ALL THROUGH EUROPES CONTRIES........AND BELIEVE  ME,  THE SCENERY IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

  2. try the eurail, its a great train for continental europe

  3. Try

    http://www.trenitalia.it/

  4. it will take you about 3 hours by eurostar, wich is a first class train (very confortable):

you will pay about 25/30 euros each but it worths...you must book before, anyway.

you better check www.trenitalia.com, wich it's in english also for more info...

    enjoy Italy!!

    ciao!

  5. The trip is about 2.5-3 hours and first class is @40 euro - so about 25 euro for 2nd class...

    trenitalia.com

hopefully the workers won't be on strike the day of your trip!

  6. Try www.eurorail.it

    or www.trenitalia.it

  7. i live in florence, have visited venice many times. it takes about 3 hours distance by train. here the only good transportation in all of italy, is by train, the buses are rarely used and are pretty uncomfortable, the trains are extremly useful and get you anywhere in all of italy. there are  different types of trains, some go faster, some stop in every stop, some go direct, some are cheaper some are expensive, so you can have any choice you want.

for example, if you want to save money, take the cheap train that obvously stops in every stop and goes slow, BUT you can take that one early in the morning like at 2 am and get to venice around 7 to 8 am, sleep all the way to venice, spend the entire day there and get the latest train back (to whereever you were coming from, or go to a new destination) and be there in the morning. i did long time ago since i wanted to save money and not have to pay hotel in venice (venice is very very expensive year round).

  8. 1800flyeurope.com has a train section too.  It's not very expensive to take the train.  MAKE SURE that you take a Eurostar.  The regional trains are not much of a savings, they're uncomfortable, and often run late.

Eurostar ensures that you will have a seat on the train.  If you don't have a reservation (and sometimes if you do) on a regional train, you end up standing in a narrow hallway w/ your luggage!
