  1. it's a lot more complex than your car, it's not something a home owner can do. you need special gauges, a compressor to evacuate the system and pull a vacuum, then the system is refilled to a specific gravity for it's size. since it is a sealed system, it's more likely that you need to clean dirt, dust, and pet hair from the cooling coils under the fridge, and also make sure the air vents on the inside are not blocked.

  2. If there is a copper line with valve by compressor, take cap off and you can refill refrigerant.  You can get tool and refrigerant at any automotive store.  Its 134A refrigerant.

  3. car dude is right most fridges take r 22 refrigerant

  4. Yes.

  5. it's probably your thermostat.... or....... try this. it fixes most problems the easiest... unplug your fridge for 24 hours... most of the time. people turn there fridge up too high and things freeze up... if it really is a Freon problem.... go buy a used fridge somewhere..... it will be far less expensive..... besides.... you have to be certified to purchase or disperse freon nowadays.

    good luck

P.s... don't listen to ruth...(sorry ruth)... that won't work. trust me

  6. Yes, but refilling is never necessary unless the system has developed a leak and that happens very, very seldom.  Generally there is another reason it is not cooling.
