I'd say you are better off with a dedicated go server. I strongly recommend KGS go server:

In my experience, it provides the best learning environment. You can of course play on yahoo, but on KGS you might actually ask someone for a lesson (and people are eager to help, most of the time). I suggest Beginners' Room or KGS Teaching Ladder rooms on KGS.

also go to popgamers.com to play some more.. Both sites offer downloads to for an hour of free play for each one!!!
