Does any one know the dimensions for a carry-on for American Airlines?

I've checked the website, but it just says 45 inches and 40 pounds. It doesn't give measurements for length, height, or depth. I need to know before I go buy luggage.

you add the dimensions together Length+Width+Depth

for wheeled luggage, this is typically a 22" upright

45 inches is the total linear length--in other words, length plus width plus depth.
