  1. Most of Perth is good to live in - our standard of living is high, crime is comparatively low, and things like hospitals, schools and public transport are quite good.

Rents are rather expensive now because of increased immigration and a shortage of properties. Expect to pay anything upward of AU$280.00 a week for anything with 2 bedrooms or more.

Buying a house is very expensive - but this is the right time to do it because prices are currently flat. Depending on the suburb, expect to pay around $350-450,000 for a stand-alone house with 3 bedrooms, a garden etc in reasonable condition, in one of the cheaper suburbs.

Groceries are about the same price all over the place, and so is petrol, but everything has increased greatly in price in recent months!! Fresh fish is terribly expensive, but if you shop carefully you could probably feed a family of four with about $250 - 400 a week.

The names of some good (but pretty average) suburbs (with better government schools, nice homes and access to railways stations) are Warwick, Hamersley, Carine, Innaloo, Bayswater, that's North of the river.

South of the river you can try Palmyra, Melville, Como, Hilton, Spearwood and so on.

Further South lie Armadale and Rockingham.

Further North you have Padbury, Kinross and Heathridge that are not so bad.

The link I have left you is a very good website that gives you maps, suburb profiles and house prices with pictures.

    Enjoy!
