  1. norms are the socially accepted standard in the society...

for example: You try to go with the fashion because you know that if you have the latest fashion you are IN in the society and that you are socially accepted by everone else in your society

  2. A standard, model, or pattern.

  3. 'The norm' is the usual, typical or standard thing in any context. It originates from the Latin word 'norma', meaning 'precept, rule, carpenter’s square'.

Whatever is 'the norm' is what is 'normal' in any given situation.

Here are some examples of its use:

"It is the norm for businessmen to wear suits to work."

"Sandra didn't really conform with the norm: she had green hair and an eyebrow piercing."

"You could tell the new manager's rules were now the norm: no one questioned her anymore."

Otherwise, 'Norm' can be a nickname for the male name 'Norman'.

    Hope this helps!
