Does any one know when play-land park closed and what happen to the roller-coaster / San Antonio TX?

Playland Park closed in 1980, but I don't know why.  The coaster, however, was rebuilt board by board and now operates as The Phoenix at Knoebel's Park in Elysburg, Pennsylvania, just due east of the middle of the state.
