  1. Your birthmother can get this information.  Have her call the Dept. of Health and find out where to write to get a copy of her record and that of her newborn from the now closed hospital.  They will tell her where the records are stored.  There will likely be a charge, but nothing terrible.  If she remembers the month and year she gave birth (if not the day), they can get them.  She has to specifically ask for the nursery records as well.

My records were moved to another hospital after the one I gave birth in was closed 2 years later (thankfully few others had to experience their bad care). The nursery records were there, but incomplete. Thankfully, my son looks just like me, so it was easy to be certain.

If this fails, consider doing a DNA test to confirm whether you are related, if you are pretty certain.   There are some online ones that do it for under $170.

Writing vital records won't help you as, in most cases, your original birth certificate was pulled.

  2. You may want to start with the office of Vital Statistics in Richmond Virginia. They have birth certificates, etc., that you can apply to receive copies of. I am not sure of the medical record part, but they would probably be able to give you the info on how to go about locating archives.

  3. Call the Bestheda Health Group that owned the hospital, they will know where the medical records are.

    Bethesda Health Group

1630 Des Peres Road, Ste. 290

    St. Louis, MO 63131

    ph: 314-800-1900

Your best bet is to do a DNA test, there are several out there for a nominal fee. Beware of individuals posing as birth mothers, etc. The only proof positive, sure fire method is DNA

  5. You should find the number to the state records. Most places keep records of births, deaths, and marriages. Secretary of state may be a good place to start.

  6. Call the Medical Board in that state they have to keep records for what ever many years your state has a law for same goes with the doctors offices. Say a doctor retires you have to get the information from the medical board on how to get your records before they are destroyed
