  1. Check here, http://www.airshooter.co.uk/acatalog/Sou... ,  http://www.razorworkz.co.uk/Silencers.ht... , http://www.thegunshop.co.uk/silencer.htm and http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/ for 22 caliber silencers.  While a silencer made for an air rifle will work on a 22 rim fire rifle, if it is made from plastic, it will not last long as it can heat up fast and the baffles will erode quickly.  Any aluminum silencer that is an inch wide and 4 to 6 inches long and equipped with baffles will work well on a rim fire rifle or an air rifle.  I do not think a silencer will do much for you on any spring powered rifle as the spring makes noise that is not reduced by the silencer, but it should work very well on pre-charged air rifles.

As far as I know there are still few restrictions on silencers in the UK.  You are lucky you do not live in the USA.  :)  $200 tax on each silencer for us Americans.  This makes silencers in the USA cost $300 to $3000 while the ones in the UK and other countries are much cheaper where not banned.  Good luck.

Edited to add; There is subsonic ammo that works great on small game like rabbit.  Even rifles shooting supersonic ammo can have noise reduced by 100-1000 times (20-30 decibels) with a good silencer.  The sonic boom from a small bullet like the 22lr is much less noisey than muzzle blast.

  2. I'm not too sure about your laws in the UK.

But in the US, there are about twenty states in which you may own full auto weapons and suppressors, as they fall under the same legislation.  The National Firearms Act, 1934.

There are about 6 other states in the union that allow them, but you must have a class II manufacturers, or a class III dealers license, and the appropriate tax stamps.

Exportation of these items is HIGHLY subject to government control.  There are permits, inspections, and most likely taxes that would be charged.  Failure to do any of this would most definitely result in Federal Pokey time.

Export of suppressors is strictly prohibited without a valid export license issued by the U.S. Department of State, Office of Defense Trade Controls, prescribed in the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), Title 22, Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 120-130.

The suppressor for and air rifle would not work, as there is no lead build up in the firing of an air propelled projectile.  Powder propelled lead bullets, leave a lead build up resulting from a byproduct of the ignition of powders burning small amounts of lead.  These are deposited by the exiting gasses into the baffling material of the silencer/suppressor.  Which is why most suppressors have a replaceable baffling material.  In some cases, but not all, sub-sonic ammunition must be used for nominal results.

Check local laws and regulations before you attempt this, but it isnt going to happen with your budget!

  3. Yeah buddy, I don't think so. Nice try though.

  4. you can only silence a single shot rifle with subsonic rounds. then you will need something to capture the sound leaving the gun. this could be a military issue suppressor or even a pillow.

  5. To briefly recap, the modern 22LR in a rifle is supersonic. That means a noisy rip as it passes, easily heard 100 yards away by itself. This defeats the entire purpose of a Maxim Device (silencer), as subsonic 22LR stuff is so wimpy you wouldn't like it. Regards, Larry.

  6. Psst... Most countries banned silencers years ago.

  7. I don't have any idea what is legal and what is not legal in the UK.  I do know that 'silencers' really don't work.  The correct terminology is "suppressor" as they 'lessen' the sound of a gun shot but don't really completely silence it like they do in the movies.  I seriously doubt that any commercially made suppressors are made for air rifles.  I they exist they must be novelties because air rifles are pretty quiet as they are.  In the USA firearm suppressors are illegal unless you are willing to go through a lot of legalize and spend some cash.  From what I've heard of the UK you folks have it worse on that side of the pond, so I feel for you.

    Good luck.
