could mean "i envy you" hard to say not knowing what it's related to.

I Envy You (I-N-V-U).  The longer version is I-N-V-U-4-U-R-A-Q-T = I envy you for you are a cutie (you can add the pi symbol at the end for "cutie pie".

This dates back at least to the 1980's when we used it in High School

look at the alfabets, they say -INVU which is equal to I-NV-U which means I Envy You. did you get it now? hope you did!
