Does any one remember this childhood book?

I cant remember the name of it. and its bothering me SUPER bad.

i remember the story plot kind of though.

There was a little animal and he was walking around outside er somthing. and then it started raining and some how he got turned into a rock. and his parents were really sad, and went looking around everywhere for him, and asked all the animals. and the seasons changed and the little animal that changed into the rock saw the seasons and could talk but no one herd him. and one day the parents went for a picnic and used the same rock that was his son and thought of him and started crying. and it turned him back to life.and the story was happily ever after.
