hi guys ...we just bought a new house in the country and we have well water here. So when i set up the fish tank i noticed the water is very cloudy. My question is does anyone know how i can make the water clearer? I put fish in there already, because I figured there was nothing i could do about it .....but is there?

p.s. the fish are fine...they don't seem to mind the water

  1. I have well water and the great thing about it is you don't have to worry about chlorination or any of the additives they put in city water, I just let the water sit out long enough to get room temp. if you have a filter it should take out the cloudiness. I do have problems with algae but it doesn't seem to bother the fish

  2. Your tank needed to cycle before you added the fish.  It may be that your water is cloudy naturally from minerals but you should be able to tell if that is the case by filling up a large glass or jug and looking through it.  If it is clear then it is your tank trying to cycle now.  You'll need to get a test kit and start watching your ammonia levels.

  3. first of all, i hope you decontaminate the water, (letting it sit for 24 hours to get room temperature and all the harmful bacteria to fish will die) second, i recommend buying "AmQuel plus" its for fresh and salt water fish, and  it removes netrate, nitrite, and ammonia, chlorine, and chloramines. it also helps water to stay clear and cloud-free. also make sure your filter is working.

i have a 30 gallon tank in my room, and in the past 6 months iv gained all this knowledge the hard way (having fish die).

  4. Congrats on the house!!!! Well my dorm has cloudy water like that too!! All you just do is add a dechlorantar and it'll clear the cloudiness!! Cycling the tank, that happens when the water gets cloudy and the cycling process is done.

  5. That is the process of cycling a tank, get some cycling agents and the process will go faster. It takes 2 weeks to 2 months to clear up totally, when I moved apartments in the same building, it did the same thing for about two to three weeks. I did a 25% water change each week and still do to keep the water clear.

Also if you have fish already they will help speed up the process as well:)
