  2. because we're driven by an innate desire to pass on our genes by having kids, and we aint gonna be having no kids if we look like a bulldog l*****g p**s off a hot kettle are we

  3. Considering the only other animal which can recognize themselves in a mirror are chimps, I'm afraid the answer is no (since the local chimp store doesn't sell mirrors)

  4. Budgies do but they don't wear make up or shave, they just preen themselves.

  5. no of course other creatures dont.

but human beings are classed as the most developed species on earth so thats why we use mirrors. also we care so much about our image

  6. We use it bcauz we can n we kno we are sopose to, does any other creature kno wat a mirror is? know's how to use it? can hold it? know's what they are lookin for and know's thats their reflection?  unless u train ur pet n they really smart cauz i kno of my fren's conceited cat that loves lookin at her self

  7. The ability to see your refection in a mirror and recognize it as yourself takes a high level or cognition and self awareness, just to start with.  It is, in fact, used as one way to judge the intelligence of some animals.  See this wikipedia article about the "mirror test" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_test  Humans don't recognize themselves in the mirror till they're about a year and a half old.  The list of other animals that can even recognize themselves in a mirror is short.  Many animals will react to a mirror as if it is another animal and become threatened.  (I've noticed hummingbirds doing this recently, in fact.)  Other animals will simply disregard the mirror, because sight is not their main ways to identify others.

So, most animals don't have the ability to "see" themselves in a mirror the way we do... they don't recognize it as themselves.  But the simple fact that we have the ability to understand "that's me!" doesn't imply a reason WHY we do it so much.  There are other animals, of course, who care about looking good.  Other animals preen and display, but they don't have the necessary cognitive skills to understand and use a mirror.  Perhaps their body-awareness is higher than ours such that they know that they look good without having to see!

Since it's pretty common among animals to want to look good to impress mates or intimidate competitors, it makes sense that humans have this trait too.  Humans also have enough cognitive ability to understand how to use a mirror.  In this way, we can see a mirror as yet another tool that humans use to accomplish a goal that most animals have.

  8. No other animals do that.

We can do it because our brain -if we are not autistic- is able to interpret the mirror image and consider it ours.

  9. I think there is a fish called a Mirror Carp, they can't help it, it's what they are!   :)

  10. You and me is not we.

I do not use mirrors in the morning.  I use mirrors so rarely that today i looked in one and realized I really need a haircut!

    It's vanity.

  11. It all boils down to Vanity.  One of the deadly sins I believe.

  12. Not all humans use mirrors in the morning - Jodie Marsh obviously doesn't own one  :(

  13. I know some humans that don't use a mirror in the morning. Like most of my male friends. Sometimes I wonder whether they've just had a fight with their combs ...
