I mean are there monkeys where in one pack the females take care of the little ones and in a different pack the males take care of the little ones? Or in one group of an animal, the males hunt for food and in a different one the females hunt for food? or are humans the only species to have varying roles from one family to the next out of all the species in the world?

  1. I would have to say to a lesser degree, that animals of the same species will have different roles, but this would mostly deal with the environment, were as in humans, the environment and culture affect roles.

I don't believe there are any animals of the same species that have completely opposite family orders in different groups.  Much of their social behavior is inherited, and a little learned, while humans inherit the basics, but learn the rest of our values and roles.

So I say again that animals that act differently are most likely a new species or a sub-species, while we would categorize people as a different cultural group.

  2. Male and female lions have very distinct roles.
