Does any other sport make you feel the same way as you do about figure skating? ?

Well, it's Summer Olympics . . . obviously there are no figure skating events going on there . . . but surely many of you are keeping up with other sports that are in competition right now!

So what are all you figure skaters watching? I know nothing can match the feeling of skating, but what comes as a close second (to you)? And why do you think so?

Or any other sport - even if it's not an Olympic sport?!

No thumbs downing anyone please! I'm just curious!

  1. I like to watch the Gymnastic,Swimming&Synchro Diving/swimming&badminton!(: haha!

  2. Gymnastics. Well, just because I did it before. But it doesn't compare to figure skating. (:

  3. I really enjoy watching gymnastics and diving and synchronized diving. but i dont get that same feeling as when i watch figure skating

  4. I like watching the diving, swimming, gymnastics, and volleyball. I enjoy playing volleyball, and i like doing gymnastics for skating. I was on a dive team before, but now I am not.

  5. I live the gymnastics and the diving. Gymnasts use come of the same moves us skaters do, plus they can spin in the most unique positions without a pad of ice and blades!

I love dance too, but nothing can match the feeling of skating...

  6. Im a figure skater,

personally i enjoy watching diving and gymnastics.

both have some of the same statsitics as FS. Not as

good as the winter olympics, but oh well, it'll do.

  7. Gymnastics (i especially like the floor performance cause it has flips and stuff and they're dancing to music)

I also love to watch Synchronized Swimming and Diving

    and regular Swimming.

But I think Gymnastics comes a little close because some parts of it has flexibility, artistry, and music kind of like figure skating

  8. NOTHING gives me the same satisfaction as when I'm on the ice, skating, but the only other sport I enjoy is soccer which is strange considering I am not a strong runner, but I love it. I think the reason I love skating so much is because when I'm skating my routine or just practice my jumps I am so focussed on landing the jump or nailing the routine that I can't think about anything else which is sometimes what I need when I have had a bad day (which happens more often than it should) But even on days when I don't have a bad day, I just have the time of my life out on the ice because I can let out all my emotions in my skating and can express myself in ways that my words fail to do.

I know, I kind of went of course of what your question was but I felt like typing that :)

  9. 1. Gymnastics- I wish to be as flexible, balanced, and strong as gymnasts! And they're fun to watch! Plus it is closely related with figure skating.

    2. SWIMMING!- I love Michael Phelps and Dara Torres. And the blueness of the water is pretty... and swimming is fun and interesting. ;D

    3. TRACK!- Any kind of running. I do cross country during school and I just wonder how the athletes build up their stamina and can run so fast! I wish I can do a mile under 7:30 this year, that's my goal. My fastest so far is 7:33 but usually I get around 7:50. :/ My school is strict so you need under 8 min to get an A!

  10. Women's or mixed lacrosse in the late spring, when the air temperature is cool but it's still sunny. Unlike, say, soccer or hockey, more tackles will be evaded, and you can run past slower players or befuddle them with better balance and stick skills. Wrong -footing a defender with well controlled stick skills and an unexpected body turn is great to watch as it's usually done with elegance and poise.

    As for olympic sports,

    - Gymnastics, because of athletic/artistry split like figure skating

    - Trampolining, because I can't believe some vary for their routine (again, like figure skating)

    - Track cycling, because of the space-age helmets, and the wacky scoring in the keirin.

  11. gymnastics is the one i enjoy in summer olympics.

cause even though its different moves and a whole different surface, it incorperates flexibility, strength, and stamina.

    like skating.

i do find admiration for all the olympic sports because its so amazingly hard to be there, and get to that point in your sport where you are one of the best in the world.

sorry, sappy moment over. going to turn on NBC now for more olympians.

  12. Although I seem to be missing most of the Olympics, I try to keep my ear peeled for the gymnastics.  I don't get as excited about the gymnastics as I do about skating, but I think the two sports have their similarities....so I think during the summer Olympics, gymnastics is a figure skater's default sport to watch.  :)

I think typically figure skating is compared with gymnastics.  It's another sport that promotes the "girls in tiny boxes" concept and philosophy.  Also it's another sport that not every guy walking down the street can do and it takes a good part of one's lifetime to master.  It's another sport where elements have to be mastered not only with technical perfection, but also with grace and making them look easy.  Gymnastics also includes that little flare for stage presence, performance and a dash of artistry.

I think the diving is pretty cool too -- I know I'd never be able to do that!!!  :)

  13. Actually nothing really makes me feel great like figure skating. I don't have that anxiety feeling. But swimming kinda makes me happy. Try that. Swimming is second i guess. But skating is definatly first. :D Gymnastics. I suck at it. But i have a feeling it really has something to do with figures skating. All those jumps and splits.

    Hope this helps.
