Question:

Does any species of brown recluse spider live in mass.

i've been told that mass does have some spicies of brown recluse spiders whereas there are 12 different spcies. i have a bite from a spider and other family members have the spider bites that look the same as mine but there are no spider bites that look like mine on line i'm being told that its from a brown recluse but i don't think it is

  1. Anything is possible, however unlikely.  They are not known to be populated within that region, but could get shipped.

    There is a great brown recluse site that has cheap traps and a first aid kit.  (Even if your spider bite is just a regular spider bite, the first aid kit works miracles!)

  2. The brown recluse spider is one specific species, Loxosceles reclusa, not 12.  It's range is not known to extend into New England, but it is possible for them to survive there if imported, given the right circumstances.

    A bite from a brown recluse will cause necrotic arachnidism, which basically means dead tissue.  If left untreated, it can cause organ damage, or even require amputation or result in sepsis and death.

    If you believe you have been bitten by a brown recluse, see a doctor as soon as possible.
